Lithuania - Kaunas, once the temporary capital of Lithuania..

The city of Kaunas sits on the confluence of the two largest rivers in Lithuania - river Neman and river Neris. In the period between WWI and WWII when Poland seized Vilnius, Kaunas served temporarily as Lithuania's capital city.
Kaunas was also the historical center of Lithuanian economic, academic and cultural life. It was the first city in Central and Eastern Europe to be given the designation UNESCO City of Design.

Lithuania - Neat and pretty Kedainiai

This small city about 55km north of Kaunas is the oldest city in Lithuania, founded in 1372. Located along River Nevezis, Kedainiai was once a fishing village.

Houses / shops along Didzioji Street (aka Great Street) with its pretty baroque architecture. We are standing in the Great Market Square which was Kedainiai's main marketplace.

Townhall, built in Rennaissance style in the 17th century. It is one of three that still remains in Lithuania.

Lithuania - Meteliai Village and smoked trout fish

Location: Meteliai (34km southeast of Alytus), Lithuania We got off the main road to take the country roads to the Lakes and look what we found...smoke fish, apples, pears and wood carvings and garden ornaments

We re-entered Lithuania from Poland near Lazdijai around noon and adjusted our time an hour forward.

Signboard with Lithuania's speed limits

We drove north on Route 135 followed by Route 132. It was drizzling. Just at Seirijai, we turned left and took Route 181 to drive through Mateliai Regional Park.

Lituania, Vilnius City

Vilnius

Visiting the capital and largest city in Lithuania - Vilnius. Most of the places of interest are within walking distance from each other.

Lithuania - Uzupis, Vilnius a place where ideas take many shapes and forms

Uzupis was once a Jewish enclave. After the Holocaust, as the buildings started to deteriorate the dwellers left. The place was abandoned and the derelict neighbourhood took on a negative reputation. Over time, artists started to move into the old abandoned buildings. Now, this neighbourhood in Vilnius houses various creative studios, galleries and cafes. The facade of various buildings are littered with the creative output of these individuals.
