This small city about 55km north of Kaunas is the oldest city in Lithuania, founded in 1372. Located along River Nevezis, Kedainiai was once a fishing village.
Houses / shops along Didzioji Street (aka Great Street) with its pretty baroque architecture. We are standing in the Great Market Square which was Kedainiai's main marketplace.
Townhall, built in Rennaissance style in the 17th century. It is one of three that still remains in Lithuania.
This bronze and granite statue located within the Great Market Square is dedicated to the noble family Radvilas. The chest symbolises the treasury of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. On the chest is the bust of Jonusas Radvila, the great commander of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Formations of Swedes and Lithuanian soldiers are frozen together next to it.
