Location: Meteliai (34km southeast of Alytus), Lithuania We got off the main road to take the country roads to the Lakes and look what we found...smoke fish, apples, pears and wood carvings and garden ornaments
Lots of apple trees and the occasional pear tree.. Villager selling their apples.
We re-entered Lithuania from Poland near Lazdijai around noon and adjusted our time an hour forward.

We drove north on Route 135 followed by Route 132. It was drizzling. Just at Seirijai, we turned left and took Route 181 to drive through Mateliai Regional Park.
Village church
Mateliai Regional Park is home to the largest lakes in the south of Lithuania - the Dusia lake, Metelys lake and Obelija lake. These lakes are important for migratory birds such as the great crested grebes and coots.
The tip of one of the lakes.
Lots of apple trees and the occasional pear tree.. Villager selling their apples.
The park has a number of villages. Here's the gardens of some of the houses in the village
At one of the village houses, there were smoked fish caught from the Dusia and Metelys Lakes for sale. We bought some smoked trout (about EUR10/kg) and had it for our lunch today.
