Turkey - Cobandede Bridge near Koprukoy village, Erzurum

We were travelling on the D100 eastward from Erzurum to Horasan and came across this bridge about 1km outside of Koprukoy Village. We decided to look around and have our lunch break here at the same time.

We had actually travelled on this road back in August 2012 but had somehow completely missed this bridge. Maybe, it did not stand out then as it did today against the blanket of snow.

According to the inscription on the bridge, it was constructed during the Mongol occupation in the 13th century.

The bridge which was made of black, red and gray cut stone had largely withstood the test of time and all that nature has to throw at it. Several restoration works were carried out over the years in 1727, 1872, 1948 and 2012.

Situated at the point where the two tributaries of the Aras river meet, the bridge and its surrounding is just stunning in winter.

Plants covered in snow.

 Dad's handy work. Merry Christmas!
