Iran Pakistan border crossing at Mirjaveh / Taftan border

25 Jan 2019 - We crossed the border between Iran and Pakistan at the Mirjaveh/Taftan border today.
We completed the formalities on the Iran side - pretty straight forward, got our carnet and passport stamped, customs inspected our Sorento and we were not asked to pay for anything. The touts were kept at bay by a kind Iranian tourism official at the tourist office at the border. We then made our way to the Pakistan side.

Just before the Pakistan gates, we parked along the roadside and walked to a building on the right that is the Pakistan immigration office. At this office, we got our passports stamped. At the gates, the police and Levies waited for us and once we registered our presence in the log book, the Levies brought us to the Levies station. It is about 12.30pm.

Day 1 of our journey ends right at the border where we have to stay at the Levies station overnight and begin the first 300km drive to Dalbandin in the morning.

We were treated very well and was served tea and a simple lunch. At about 5pm, the Levies escorted us to the Customs office located nearby to process our Carnet. It was simple and straight forward.

We were then escorted to Taftan town to get our punctured tyre repaired, buy dinner and exchange some currency.

The next 1000km journey from Taftan to Quetta will see us crossing the deserts of Pakistan. Since we will be travelling through sensitive areas, we will be escorted by Levies / Police 24 hours a day until we leave Baluchistan province.
