Norway - Atlanterhavsvegen Scenic Route

Atlanterhavsvegen Scenic Route

 The iconic Storseisundbrua bridge.

Today we travelled on one of the eighteen National Tourist Routes in Norway - the Atlanterhavsvegen (Atlantic Ocean Road).
In 2005, it was voted Norway's Construction of the Century.
In 2006, the Guardian named it the world's best road trip.

This scenic route is 36km long, starting from Karvag to Bud. The ocean is the dominant feature with seven bridges snaking between several islands and skerries. The Storseisundbrua bridge stands out as a spectacular feat of engineering. On a day with bad weather, this stretch of road can get very dangerous.

We travelled the 8.3km stretch from Karvag to Vevang.
At Veyang, we continued on Route 64 to Eide.

Storseisundbrua Bridge

The iconic Storseisundbrua bridge was completed in 1989. At 260m, it is the longest bridge on this route. The Atlantic Ocean roads curves right and left as it reaches the highest point in the middle of this impressive bridge.
