On our drive from Wanaka to Fox Glacier on the Haast Pass-Makarora Road (Route 6), we dropped by to visit the Blue Pools. From the car park, it is a short walk on well defined trails through old forest to get to the pristine pools.
The Blue Pools is where the Makarora River and Blue River meet.
The blue water is a result of light reflection on the snow-fed, icy cold water.
Crystal clear waters.. you can see all the way to the bottom of the pool
Glacier melt feeding into the Blue Pool which then flows into Makarora River

Dad on the suspension bridge. We had the whole place to ourselves.
Busy admiring the blue waters..
